This is a shoot I did for a client for their Aikido Martial Arts Dojo (Studio).

While I was in Balboa Park photographing a few of the Pear Trees in bloom I couldn’t resist shooting this skateboarder doing a 360 flip at the fountain (yes he landed it).

I had the pleasure of shooting Supercross again this year in San Diego for the 2013 season at Qualcomm Stadium.
Here are a few shots. I was using a slow shutter speed and panning technique on these photos (as well as a wide aperture f2.8) to get an even more out of focus and blurry background. You will also notice that the spokes on the wheels are blurry as opposed to when you use a fast shutter speed that freezes the spokes. It adds an element of movement and as well as speed.
I think I was at about 1/160th of a second (pretty slow for such a fast sport). As you can see however with the right technique you can get some pretty cool results.

I’m a little backlogged in the blog image posting department but here are some photos from the Charger vs Ravens game this past NFL season. Who knew at the time that Baltimore would then go on to win the Superbowl.

The WCT (World Championship Tour) makes a stop every year at Lower Trestles surf break in Southern California. As an action sports photographer I have the pleasure of shooting this contest almost every year. Surf photography is one of my passions not only because of the insane moves these guys are pulling off but also because it’s something I enjoy doing myself. I love to surf as often as I can schedule permitting. Knowledge of a sport you are covering is always a benefit as it allows you to anticipate the action.
It’s always a visual display of progressive surfing with the best surfers in the world putting on a fantastic show. The wave is known as one of the best skate park type waves around. This always makes for great action, as you can see from the photos below.
Here are some shots form the contest.

I just found out that my Portfolio is being featured as one of the Portfolio’s of the month on PDN’s (Photo District News) PhotoServe website.
Every month the feature 10 photographer’s portfolios on the home page of their website. It’s a rotating slide show showing one image and the photographer’s name. You can then click on the image and be taken to their PhotoServe Portfolio.
It’s a great honor as there are a ton of photographers on this site most of which are extremely talented.

I was in Florida recently and did a photo shoot with a local KiteBoarder, Scott. It was mid day and I set up two remote speedlights to compensate for the harsh shadows of the midday sun. I love creating dramatic light but besides in a studio where you have complete control, early morning and late afternoon make it a little easier to manipulate the light. Midday however can be more challenging. Do it right though and you can get some pretty cool results.

There was a lot of hype surrounding an incoming swell for Friday, January 6th, 2012.
When the swell finally arrived it did not disappoint. It perhaps wasn’t as big as some people anticipated but definitely brought some fun decent sized waves.
Here are some photos from that day.
